It should be noted that parts of these dwellings are not original and have been partly restored by the NPS

There was mass looting and vandalism before the area was declared a National Park in 1906.
(people camped over winter at these sites to loot the sites and tore down the timber beams to use for firewood)

Some might argue that the integrity of the cliff dwellings is lost by the restoration work of the NPS.
Without the National Park's Service intervention in 1906,
there would probably be nothing left for you to see in the present day.
